Diamond Ball

March 12, 2008

8 Mar 2008 – We attended a ball on Saturday night. It was a fundraising event for Peakirk and Glinton Primary School.  Since the ball finished at 1am, the children were stayed over at Amy’s house for a night.  Danny and I felt strange without the children, the house was just too quiet.  I couldn’t remember when was the last time we had a night just two of us, probably 7 years ago?!  Anyway, I felt great to dressed up and seen our friends in beautiful evening gown and smart tux. Not to mention the special guest of the night is Mr. Warwick Davis!  He starred in movies like Star Wars, Harry Potter and Willow.   We had a wonderful time. Also, Danny hit the dance floor!  FYI, he didn’t dance in public for a decade.

Snow! Snow!

March 7, 2008

4 Mar 2008 – Yes! We wish to see snow. Please excuse us, we are people from tropica country and we only have two seasons, ie hot & dry and raining seasons. Hence, we never see snow before. We were told that Peterborough do not get snow every year.  Since we were approaching March, we should say ‘bye-bye’ to winter and say ‘hello’ to spring, we had given up hope to see snow this year. Yi Hong surprised us this morning saying that it was snowing outside.   We were so excited to see the snow and hope we could have snow-ball fighting and making snowman later.  But, the snowing only lasted for half an hour.  It’s good enough for us.  Our friends also got excited for us.  We even received an alert call from Noel so that we don’t missed it.

Snow finally came on Easter Day, while we were in Singapore :(  Nevermind.  I’m sure we will definately see snow in these 3 years.

Mothering Sunday

March 7, 2008

2 Mar 2008 – Mothering Sunday in the UK is the equivalent of Mothers’ Day in other countries.  Well, mothers definately deserved more than one day ‘recognition’. Friday after school, Yi Hong & Yi Xuen came home with some lovely Daffodil, cards and gifts. Yi Xuen made a lovely heart shape cookies for me.  It was so yummy and end up all in her tummy.  On Sunday, Yi Hong prepared breakfast and let me have it in bed. Wow! What a lovely day off for mummy.

‘Mothering Sunday has been celebrated in the UK on the fourth Sunday in Lent (The forty days before Easter, but not counting Sundays).  No one is absolutely certain exactly how the idea of Mothering Sunday began. About four hundred years ago, people who lived in little villages made a point of going not to their local church but to the neares big church. To what was called the Mother Church. People who visit their mother church would say they had gone ‘a mothering’. Young English girls and boys ‘in service’ were only allowed one day to visit their family each year.  This was usually Mothering Sunday. Often the housekeeper or cook would allow the maids to bake a cake to take home for their mother.’

Earth Quake in England!

March 7, 2008

28 Feb 2008 – I am not joking.  An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 has shaken parts of Britain. Danny and I were awoke when we felt the house was shaking. Danny went down to check if it’s our washing machine’s problem.  I was quite calm (or should I say I am too lazy to bother).  I thaught I must be having a dream.  Earthquake was another posibility because I experienced it before in Singapore.  The quake struck about an hour after midnight and it reported that the quake was the strongest for nearly quarter of a century.  There were no reports of anyone being killed or serious damage.  In Barnsley, a man was injured in the pelvis when a chimney collapsed and plunged through the roof of his bedroom.
