Kids say…

November 28, 2008

During a playdate at one of YH friend’s house. YH (my 7 years old son) started a conversation.

YH: What do you think about the economy now?
Georgia’s mum: Erm…..
YH: It’s bad. But, Singapore is still ok.
Georgia’s mum: ???!!!???!!!!

Thanks Dad, for always turn on CNN news in the morning.

——————————————————————————————

YH: What do you want to be when you grown up?
YX: I want to be a mum, caring for my babies.
YH: Then, I will be a dad and going to work.
YX: Nope. Dad is lazy, just sit down and watch TV.

Well, you should see Danny’s face when he heard that.

Happy Thanksgiving!

November 28, 2008

Today, we celebrated a big day of American. We were invited to the Dae’s for Thanksgiving dinner. I got a chance to be Corrina’s assistant, and I hope I could replicate these special recipes when we go back to Singapore. Corrina is such an amazing cook, our feast included 2 pumpkin pies, 1 chocolate pie, 4 roast chickens (American normally have Turkey but British reserved it till Christmas), mashed potatoes, apple-cranberries jello salad, green beans cosseroles, Grandma’s Turkey Stuffing, Dip and everything was made from scratch!!! Corrina actually has a list to do (as always) and what’s more… WITH SCHEDULE & TIME ON !!! This is what I call a ‘Perfectionlist’. Everything was absolutely wonderful. Big feast, American football, families and friends gathering….. you have no idea we could be more American than American in States.
There were 17 of us and I feel like our re-union dinner in Chinese New Year. We are thankful for our loving family, friendship, opportunity to have this new experience, and everything that we have today.

My 33rd Birthday

November 26, 2008

Yes. I am officially 33 now, although I’ve been avoiding it…… Since we didn’t really celebrate birthdays for the past ? years, my close friends had constantly reminded Danny. Last Thursday, the boys went out for a movie. Kevin and Simon brought Danny to ‘Monsoon’ (a branded boutique) and tried to get me a dress (while Sarah and Corrina looked for my dress size in my house). Thank you, my friends, appreciate your thought…… although Danny didn’t get anything.
We went out for dinner with Sarah, Simon, Corrina, Kevin and Harrison on Saturday night at Loch Fyne. They serve fresh seafood and it was absolutely delicious. We had such a great time.
Surprisingly, Danny got me 33 roses for my birthday and took a day off. Thanks Danny. We went out shopping… for FOOD and had lunch at ‘Noodle Bar’, spending time just two of us. Danny invited our friends over for dinner and he done everything, I just sit back and relaxed. YH and YX each gave me a lovely birhday card. My friends and family back home sent me greetings by card and calls. I felt LOVE and suddenly I realised I am so lucky, fortunate, blessed to have a loving family and wonderful friends around me and even far away.
Yen, my twin sister, Happy Birthday to you too! Thanks for the card and I agree with you. When we were little, we used to hate celebrating our birthday together and was hoping we could be the only special ONE. But now, I wish we could celebrate any festival together.

Happy Thanksgiving!

November 23, 2008

Today we joined the ISE group for Thanksgiving lunch at Longthorpe. There were 130 people attended. The kids had fun and busy doing arts and crafts while mum and dad catch up with friends. I love the Thanksgiving food. It was like a American Buffet, eg. Turkey, mashed potatoes, casserole, hot pot, pumpkin pie etc. I bet you can’t even get it in a 5 stars restaurant.

Happy Halloween

November 23, 2008

This was Yen and Chloe first Halloween. We make sure they dressed very ‘halloween’ in order to get lots of treats. Chloe was ‘Cinderella’; YX was a scary princess and YH was a bloody skeleton. They came back with a bucket of sweets. We went to the Dae’s for Halloween party after that. It was FUN!

Belgium

November 23, 2008

Brussels
This was our family holidays together with auntie Yen and Chloe. We took off on Friday afternoon. Our train to London was delayed and we almost missed our connecting train (Eurostar) to Belgium. Luckily we managed to got into the train and after that we enjoyed a glass of juice (not wine) and snacks while admire the beautiful scenery outside. We reached Brussels at 7pm and had trouble finding our way to the hotel. We tried asking a few people for direction, but, none of them understand English. This is not fun when it’s getting dark, hungry, tired and the children started whining. We had no choice but walked back to the train station and took a taxi. After checked in into the hotel, we had a very good Beijing Chinese meal nearby our hotel.
The next day, after enjoyed our hotel breakfast buffet, we started our Brussel tour. Brussels is the capital city of Belgium also be considered something of a capital for the European Union. It described as a city of stylish architecture, vibrant culture, lace and exceptional Chocolate. Belgium national dish ‘Mussels in White Wine served with Fries’ is Danny’s favourite. We tour around the city by FOOT! We had seen Grand’Place (Grote Markt), which surrounded by the city tower and a range of beautiful 300 year old buildings; Manneken Pis, the famous statue of a little boy peeing; The Bourse, stock market building; Flea market; Royal Palace; Notre Dame and Cathedral and lots of beautiful buildings.

Bruges
On the thrid day in Belgium, we travelled by train to another famous city – Brugge (Dutch: Brugge). Once a 13-century cloth making center and is one of the best preserved pre-motorised cities in Europe. We were impressed by the charming historic houses, canal, church, museum and the children love to see the horse drawn carts. Yi Hong thought Bruges is ‘Sonic, the Hedgehog’ town.
The next day, Danny and Yi Hong took a 12km cycling tour while the girls went shopping and had coffee & ice cream break. What a good idea! They cycle around the city and a place called Damme, which they described as beautiful and has many wonderful and atmospheric restaurants. Also, they discoved the Napoleon Canal. On the last night in Belgium, Yen was very kind to babysit the children so that Danny and I{ could go out for a romantic dinner. It was quite romantic but was in a Chinese restuarant. sigh…..

After 5 days holidays, we really miss our home. What’s more… The Dae invited us for dinner when we arrived home. Jeff & Sue (Corrina’s parent) were here for holiday and we were so happy to see them again. Corrina’s ‘Angel Chicken’ was so delicious, even the children had a few round. We also got to celebrate Sue’s belated birthday sang birthday song in English and Chinese version.

I don’t want you to go…….

Auntie Yen and Chloe left today, after 2 weeks visiting England. We had so much fun but good times always seem passed by so so quickly. It just not enough!!! They visited Cambridge, Burghley House, Activity World, City Centre, Hampton and travelled to Brussel and Brugge. As we are living in this lovely neighbourhood, they also got a chance to taste English Tea (dinner) at Simon & Sarah; American dinner and ‘trick-or-treat’ party at the Dae. Yen said her favourite was staying in our village and spent quality time together. We miss you already. sob sob….
